Vancouver Whitecaps v Portland Timbers – The Story In Pictures

Wow. That’s how you end a season. Of course it does make you wonder where that’s been the whole year, but it was one hell of a climax nonetheless.

Vancouver Whitecaps routed Portland Timbers at BC Place on Sunday afternoon, hitting four unanswered goals by the 55th minute mark in a 4-1 victory that saw the ‘Caps end the Timbers season and lift a record-breaking sixth Cascadia Cup.

A stunning Giles Barnes double had the ‘Caps two up and coasting by half time, and they looked home and dry after Pedro Morales and Nicolas Mezquida added two goals in a minute.

Of course it wouldn’t be the Whitecaps this season if they didn’t give up a goal on a penalty and provide everyone with a nervy final few minutes, but there was no repeat of the devastating Toronto Canadian Championship late loss, and Vancouver held firm for the win and the Cup.

AFTN photographer Tom Ewasiuk was there to capture all the action before, during and after the game and here’s his “Story In Pictures”, with a full Flickr slideshow at the end.
