Vancouver Whitecaps v FC Dallas – The Oops They Did It Again Story In Pictures

MLS are always looking for innovative ideas. May we suggest reducing Whitecaps games to 40 minutes per half. Can we just pretend they already have? Great. Woo hoo, the ‘Caps won their must-win match against Dallas 1-0 and Kei Kamara was the hero with his 13th goals of the MLS season.

What’s that? Oh they haven’t and a Santiago Mosquera goal in the 42nd minute and Matt Hedges’ 87th minute winner stuck a knife deep into the Whitecaps playoff hopes. Oh.

AFTN photographer Tom (@ResidualImage) was there to capture the action before, during and after the game. Here’s his “Story In Pictures”, with a full Flickr slideshow at the end.

Your Whitecaps starting XI

The Southsiders and Curva Collective united in general admission for this one

And it was nearly an early disaster for the ‘Caps as Michael Barrios nearly poked the ball past Stefan Marinovic but Doneil Henry cleared the danger

Always keen to help, Jake Nerwinski and Kendall Waston try and keep some Dallas players from falling over in the Canadian air

But they weren’t able to stop Santiago Mosquera rising above all the Whitecaps defenders

To head home the opening goal in the 42nd minute

Mixed emotions

With Dallas delight

And Stefan Marinovic’s face matched how we were all feeling

Alphonso Davies was a spark for the ‘Caps in the second half and sent in a great cross in the 66th minute

For the headmaster Kei Kamara to rise and head home the equaliser and his 13th goal of the season

Heart signs all round

But despite some pressure, Vancouver couldn’t find the breakthrough, allowing Michael Barrios to flick on a Maxi Urutti corner in the 87th minute

For Matt Hedges to rise unmarked and bullet home the winner

2-1 Dallas and the end of the Whitecaps season? We’ll soon see
