Vancouver Whitecaps v Sporting Kansas City – The Story In Pictures
The Western Conference leaders headed to BC Place in good from and in a confident mood, but Sporting KC were sent packing by a Vancouver Whitecaps side that have been pretty buoyed themselves by four excellent road performances that saw them finally return home with six points and a real feeling that they should have had more.
A poor first half by both teams was more than made up for by an exciting second, as Vancouver showed some great attacking play and quick breaks forward on the counter. It was pleasing to watch and they could have had a lot more goals than their eventual 2-0 victory.
Cristian Techera set the ‘Caps on their way five minutes before half time, and Tim Parker sealed the win, heading home his first ever MLS goal midway through the second. Fredy Montero missed his second penalty of the season inbetween, and there were a slew of chances that went begging.
But all in all a good day at the office for the Whitecaps and AFTN photographer Tom Ewasiuk was there to capture all the action before, during and after the game. Here’s his “Story In Pictures”, with a full Flickr slideshow at the end.

Discussing how many man buns on a team is a man bun too many – the answer is one btw
I’ll let you caption this one yourself!

Not a lot to write home about in the opening stages but Gerso Fernandes was a nuisance and played in Latif Blessing here. The play was offside but Kendall Waston produced a fantastic last ditch tackle

1-0 ‘Caps. Joy abounds
The Whitecaps come out gunning in the second half and win a soft penalty in the 53rd minute when Fredy Montero is blocked in the box
Very soft, but we’ll take it!
Actually can we take it again because Montero’s shot was saved by Tim Melia
Robbo going through his gamut of looks in this match
But if the ‘Caps were worried that the penalty miss was going to prove costly, they needn’t have, as Tim Parker rose to meet a Christian Bolanos free kick in the 67th minute
