Episode 351 – The AFTN Soccer Show (The Mighty Fall with guests Marc Dos Santos, Martin Nash, Theo Bair, and Marco Carducci)

It’s been a tough week for Vancouver Whitecaps, but at least not a pointless one.
We look back at the Canadian Championship loss to Cavalry and the hard-fought goalless MLS draw in Minnesota, chat about the clear problems present, the messages sent, and what this Whitecaps team are going to look like for the rest of the season.

We have an in-depth chat with ‘Caps head coach Marc Dos Santos about his future plans for turning the team around, from this transfer window to what promises to be an intense offseason ahead.

We also chat with Whitecaps striker Theo Bair about breaking into the first team and heading off the MLS Homegrown game, and talk to two Cavalry FC members with Whitecaps connections – Martin Nash and Marco Carducci. Fredy Montero was berating Russell Teibert (quite rightly) during the game in Minnesota for killing the attack with back passes when Fredy and others had given him options to pass the ball into attacking positions. There were also several plays when Yordy Reyna had the ball and Russell Teibert was the clear open option and Yordy looked him off. Pete Schaad even commented on this during the play-by-play. It seems the attacking players are getting tired of not getting service from some in the midfield.

At 0:44:39 run KORG and Thor hammer scene from Ragnarok.

    0:50:00 – 0:54:52 This is gold.

I was a season ticket holder in years 1,2, and 3. It was clear to me that the league was not going to let the team be successful and that MLS had different plans for the Whitecaps brand. This is the elephant in the room that no one wants to address. It literally is the reason I gave up my financial support after year 3. What does Ownership think when they see what the league does to them. If the net result is the same? why spend money on overpriced DP’s and infrastructure to find them?

“Top 25 club in the world” ~ What happened to this? What changed so that we’re no longer pursuing this goal? This was said before Whitecaps FC fully understood MLS and CONCACAF.

Maybe MLS isn’t where the team should be?

A move to the CPL might be the best for everyone. At least we would be legit.
