Episode 621 – The AFTN Soccer Show (A New Day Has Come – Whitecaps v St Louis, Canada’s historic Copa, Jesse Marsch, Euro 2024)

We’re back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Canadian national team, Copa America, and Euro 2024 chat. Near, far, wherever you are, the football keeps coming and so do the podcasts, and we’re joined by Harjeet Johal this week to talk about it!

The Whitecaps got back to winning ways against St Louis in MLS action on Saturday night. We pick over the good, the bad, and the ugly from a match was an emotional rollercoaster as a tough four-game road spell looms. Plus we look at the likelihood that BC Place is getting grass for the Wrexham friendly, the continuing demise of Canadian media as the Whitecaps seek a new radio deal, and Fafa Picault wants away from the club, or does he?

Turning our attention to the international stage, we chat about Canada’s historic qualification for the knockout rounds at Copa America, round-up some of the rest of the action from the tournament, sadly deal with more online abuse for Canadian players, and hear from head coach Jesse Marsch. Plus are the crowds and ticket prices at Copa a concern for the World Cup here in 2026?

All of this plus we look at the drama and the disappointments at Euro 2024, Cork band The Frank and Walters are our new Album of the Month, and on the day that they depart the Euros, we’ve a Belgium anthem in Wavelength.
