Episode 695 – The AFTN Soccer Show (Feeling Heaven – Müller magic sends Whitecaps top, Isaac Boehmer interview, World Cup tickets and qualifiers)
We’re back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, and FIFA World Cup chat and interviews.
Some late drama and some Thomas Müller magic saw the Whitecaps hit the summit once again in the MLS Western Conference with one game of the regular season to go. With first place and the number one seeding on the line for the ‘Caps on Decision Day, we look back at the dramatic late win in Orlando and who shone in the Floridian heat, hear some postgame thoughts from Jesper Sorensen and Nelson Pierre, and look at what lies in store in the final week of the regular season and the potential playoff path ahead.
Our feature interview this week is with Whitecaps goalkeeper Isaac Boehmer. We chat with the stopper about the season that’s been, what’s still to come, his eventful year off the pitch, goalkeeping rule changes, and taking Thomas Müller fishing. Plus we look at what the goalkeeping situation might look like in Vancouver next year with both Boehmer and current number one Yohei Takaoka at the end of their contracts and becoming free agents. Plus we find out if Whitecaps assistant coach Michael D’Agostino fancies a chocolate digestive.
The Whitecaps successful weekend was also good news for Vancouver FC of Langley who have now booked their berth in next year’s CONCACAF Champions Cup as Canadian Championship runners-up. We look at what that will mean for the club and their controversial ending this weekend in Ottawa.
All of that plus we talk FIFA World Cup 2026 tickets and qualifiers, and music-wise, Kneecap continue their residency as our Album of the Month, we’ve Britpop songs from Ash and Marion, and Halftime Oranges return to Wavelength with a song about what could have been.

Or after all that, you could just listen on the player below!
True story. An eagle is perched proud in the tallest tree in the community park. The crow, pigeon, and seagull, three birds that compete with one another for food in the park, band together and spring into action. The much smaller but more nimble birds react quickly. They relentlessly dive bomb and hen peck the eagle. Frustrated, the eagle is forced from it’s perch.
The eagle, being much bigger, is a lumbering flyer and can not contend with the smaller and quicker birds. The dynamic trio are fearless as they continue to torment the eagle. The eagle can not turn away and run fast enough. The battle is over in less than 30 seconds. The eagle is lumbering away empty clawed and the crow, pigeon, and seagull are back to being enemies. All the squirrels, rabbits, and other park critters are scurrying about safe once again.
What’s the point of the story? The eagle is a soloist out on the perimeter. Not a team player.
Have you ever seen a flock of eagles other than in mating season? The eagle is a poor choice for a team name. You’re better off naming your team the canaries. They will at least flock. Yellow is such an aggressive colour don’t you think? Nice and bright.
Consider this some purple rain. Lets talk about Har and Har’s increasingly more and more unprofessional behaviour in the media scrums. Just because Har is flying the rainbow flag doesn’t give Har special privilege. Har sounds more like a child and fan boy than a professional journalist/sports reporter. Keep the flock in check Michael. I have a gay brother Michael, and I accept him and his husband completely. I’m not a hater. I like Har. When Har is being a sports reporter? Har is excellent.
I hope I haven’t ruffled to many feathers?
Sorry, but not sorry, to pile on Har but have to agree. Her questions in these scrums are so unprofessional and total cringe. I don’t actually mind her written stuff but she appears to want to go with a gotcha style approach in her questions. This is soccer not politics. She’s certainly writing for the right outlet in the Daily Hive which is just trash journalism at its worst.
Enjoyed the show. Especially the ticket talk. I’ll be hard pressed to spend the amount FIFA is asking. More than my season ticket to PFC. I guess I’ll attend the Fan Zone (which was great during the 2015 WWC) and maybe try the strategy Zac mentioned…finding some minnows matches on resale. Thank Gianni for nothing haha.
