There’s Still (Extra) Time – Episode 13 [Support Network]

“Football is nothing without fans” is a famous quote by the legendary Celtic and Scotland manager Jock Stein. The atmosphere and passion at matches certainly wouldn’t exist without them.

Yet through a mixture of fear and suspicion, the fans are often poorly treated by clubs and the powers that be. Not everywhere, and with clubs like TSS Rovers here in BC and Detroit City in the States, fully embracing supporter culture, there’s a lot of great stuff to be done. With the Canadian Premier League on the horizon, that feels like another opportunity for supporters to shape the future of the game in conjunction with the clubs and the league.

I’m joined for this episode by Curva Collective’s Zachary Meisenheimer to discuss what his hopes are for the new CPL, look at how supporters are treated differently by various teams across MLS, and chat about the recent furore in D.C. that saw one of their three supporters groups, the Screaming Eagles, given official status over the other two.

If you have an interest in supporter culture in Canada and North America, you’ll enjoy this one. Running time is around 35 minutes.
