Vancouver Whitecaps v Real Salt Lake – The Story In Pictures
If you were a neutral, this must have been a fun game to watch. If you’re a Vancouver Whitecaps supporter, it was as well, in the end.
Up until Cristian Techera’s 79th minute game winning goal, it was looking an awful lot like same old, same old as the ‘Caps attacked and created chances (19 shots on goal in the end) but were once again struggling to finish off their chances and kill off Real Salt Lake. Surely it wasn’t going to be another tale of heartbreak?
Turns out no. Two fantastic highlight reel strikes from Gershon Koffie and RSL’s Javier Morales had the teams level at the half, before Techera’s first ever MLS goal and some key David Ousted saves saw the ‘Caps over the line with a 2-1 victory ahead of their upcoming gruelling five game road stretch.
AFTN photographer Tom Ewasiuk was there to capture all the action before, during and after the game and here’s his “Story In Pictures”, with a full Flickr slideshow at the end.

A huge turning point in the game comes in the 64th minute as David Ousted pulls off another ‘Save of the Week’ candidate from an Elias Vasquez header
Denied at one end, Vasquez gives up a goal at the other when he attempts to chest the ball back to Nick Rimando
But before the keeper can collect the ball, Cristian Techera nips in
And rounds Rimando before slotting home the winner
