Vancouver Whitecaps v Sporting Kansas City – The Story In Pictures
Home at last! But can the ‘Caps go away again please?
Vancouver Whitecaps’ home woes continued with their fourth loss at BC Place this season. That’s 14 points dropped at home from nine matches and only 13 points taken.
Clearly it’s not good enough if the team wants to be at the top of the Western Conference and have a home playoff game but what’s behind it and how can they change it?
Those are questions for another day. For now, we’ll look back on the missed chance and KC’s win thanks to Kevin Ellis’ 52nd minute winner.
AFTN photographer Tom Ewasiuk was there to capture all the action before, during and after the game and here’s his “Story In Pictures”, with a full Flickr slideshow at the end.

Octavio Rivero and Cristian Techera threatened early for the Caps with Rivero’s header flashing just past the post
Kekuta Manneh was almost played in as well but KC keeper Tim Melia was up for the task
The Caps came closest yet when Tim Parker rose to meet a Mauro Rosales corner 13 minutes in
The rookie came agonisingly close to his first MLS goal but Benny Feilhaber was on hand to clear off the goalline
Cristian Techera looked set to finally grab the equaliser as he was played in but Amadou Dia came up with the vital last ditch tackle
Syd’s trophy husband was putting himself about
And Mr Leroux found himself in several clashes with Kendall Waston with more to come
After all their first half pressure, you sensed how this was going to play out and Kevin Ellis rose between Waston and Parker in the 52nd minute
And headed home what was to prove to be the only goal of the game
Joy for the travelling army of KC supporters
And KC nearly added to their tally six minutes later when Krisztian Nemeth’s shot crashed off the right post
But in the 62nd minute Techera had a chance to tie things up
But with little to aim at, Melia saved and the rebound bounced off Matt Besler and headed goalwards
It’s going in! It’s going in!
Bastard!
Techera comes close again in the 70th minute with a dipping free kick that Melia tips over
As the came comes to a close, Waston and Dwyer are at it again
As the Caps push for an equaliser Parker meets a Rosales free kick in the 90th minute
But Melia does it again and secured KC the three points
Robbo’s look sums up how we were all feeling after that one
