WFC2 v Portland Timbers 2 – The Story In Pictures
Portland on the mantelpiece.
That’s three games this season between Whitecaps 2 and Timbers 2, and chalk up three wins for the good guys. This last one though was very much far from being a classic.
A Daniel Haber goal three minutes from time was what it took to separate the teams in a fairly flat encounter, but the 1-0 win saw the ‘Caps extend their lead at the top of the Western Conference and chalk up back to back home wins before they now head out to four games on the road over the next month.
AFTN photographer Tom Ewasiuk was there to capture all the action before, during and after the game and here’s his “Story In Pictures”, with a full Flickr slideshow at the end.

With Kyle Greig suspended, captain Marco Carducci leads out the ‘Caps

With injuries and suspensions, here’s WFC2’s makeshift starting XI

Daniel Haber was in the thick of most of the ‘Caps action from the start

Ben McKendry tries to add to his impressive strikes so far this season

Marco Carducci wasn’t having much to do, but what there was he was coping with well

One of these kids clearly has way better taste

Marco Bustos comes close at the starting of the second half, flashing a shot wide

Kianz Froese does well to get past the Timbers ‘keeper

But knocks it just too far and can’t turn it into the net

Meanwhile, Portland do have the ball in the net, but it’s clearly offside

Then with three minutes remaining, Daniel Haber is played in

And makes no mistake, firing home the winner in a 1-0 WFC2 win

To his natural joy
