WFC2 v Orange County SC – The End Of Story In Pictures

And now, the end is near, and Whitecaps 2 face the final curtain.

Friday 13th. Unlucky for some. Certainly unlucky for WFC2, who blew a 3-1 lead to give up three unanswered goals and come away with a 4-3 loss to Orange County in their final match of the 2017 season.

A sad end to a poor season, made even sadder by the fact that this was WFC2’s last ever match.

It was going so well after Myer Bevan shot them ahead following a ten pass move that will be one of the team’s goals of the season. OC equalised before David Norman grabbed his first professional goal with a screamer just before half time. Kadin Chung poked one away just past the hour mark and things were looking to come to a positive end.

But it wasn’t to be and WFC2 bow out the way they began, by giving up four goals in a loss. It’s been an adventure, it’s been fun, it’s been a pleasure covering the team. Now it’s on to the next chapter.

AFTN photographer Tom Ewasiuk was there to capture all the action before, during and after the game. Here’s his “Story In Pictures”, with a full Flickr slideshow at the end.

Your final WFC2 starting XI

Things started well for the ‘Caps as Terran Campbell found Brett Levis out wide, who sent a dangerous cross into the box

Which was met by Myer Bevan who headed home the opener in the 15th minute

And Myer Bevan had a solid penalty shout soon after, but the ‘Caps appeals were waved away

But Orange County hit back and Irvin Parra tied it up in the 41st minute with a fierce speculative shot to the back post that flew over Sean Melvin’s head and settled in the top corner

Leaving the ‘Caps keeper unimpressed

But two minutes later, David Norman gets the ball about 22 yards out in front of goal

And fires home a beauty to give the ‘Caps the lead once more

The joy of your well deserved first professional goal for our WFC2 Player of the Year

And Vancouver go further ahead when OC keeper Charlie Lyon can’t hold on to a long range Marco Bustos strike

First Myer Bevan and then Kadin Chung try to poke home the rebound

Before Kadin Chung slides in and does just that at his second attempt

3-1 WFC2 and things are going swimmingly

But that lead was to last only two minutes before Zach Kobayahsi collected the ball after an OC shot crashed off the crossbar

And fired home to make it 3-2

OC push for the equaliser and win a free kick in the 76th minute

Which Irvin Parra fires through the wall and past Sean Melvin to tie things up

Nothing to do with the game but a fantastic shot of Pa Modou Kah

And with five minutes remaining, Kevin Jeon shakes off Cole Seiler to fire home from the edge of the box

To give Orange County all three points and leave WFC2 heartbroken

And that was all she wrote
