Episode 487 – The AFTN Soccer Show (Dreams Can Be So Cruel Sometimes)

The latest AFTN Soccer Show is out for another packed show of Vancouver Whitecaps, MLS, and Canadian football chat.

It’s a playoff edition as we look at the highs and lows for the two BC teams in postseason action this weekend, as the Whitecaps MLS season came to an end in Kansas City, but Pacific FC’s continued as they made it to the Canadian Premier league championship game.

We kick things off with some ‘Caps chat, who are one and done after going down to a 3-1 defeat at Sporting KC in the MLS playoffs. What went wrong? What was with the line-up? And should we be feeling a bit downbeat about crashing out early, optimistic about what they’ve achieved and the future, or a combination of all of that?

We look at the main talking points from the game and hear from ‘Caps coach Vanni Sartini, plus we round up the rest of the weekend’s MLS playoff action.

But it was far better news for Pacific FC as they beat Cavalry FC, in somewhat controversial circumstances, in their semi-final to reach their first ever CPL championship game against Forge FC in two week’s time. We chat about both semis, set up the final, and hear from Pacific head coach Pa Modou Kah and Cavalry’s Tommy Wheeldon Jr.

All of this, plus New Zealand Sunday league team turned band Cumbia Blazera make their debut in this episode’s Wavelength and Jersey band Crazy and the Brains continue their residency as our Artists of the Month.

Here’s the rundown for the main segments from the episode:
