Vancouver Whitecaps v Toronto FC – A Voyageurs Cup Story In Pictures
To quote the words of a Welsh legend:
“It’s a heartache
Nothing but a heartache
Hits you when it’s too late
Hits you when you’re down
It’s a fool’s game
Nothing but a fools game
Standing in the cold rain
Feeling like a clown”
The words of Bonnie Tyler there from 1977. Seem very apt today for Whitecaps fans, players and their Welsh coach.
Nicolas Mezquida and Tim Parker gave Vancouver Whitecaps a fine victory over Toronto FC at BC Place on Wednesday night in the Canadian Championship final second leg.
AFTN photographer Tom Ewasiuk was there to capture all the action before, during and after the game and here’s his “Story In Pictures”, with a full Flickr slideshow at the end.

The match winners

Scarves up Southsiders

Carl Robinson clearly disgusted by shit haircuts

Christian Bolanos fires one over in the first half

Then Matias Laba tests Alex Bono with a fierce shot just before the half

Two minutes into the second half, substitute Nicolas Mezquida gets his head on a cross

And heads home the opening goal of the night

Andrew Jacobson nearly makes it two but just can’t connect at the back post

But in the 67th minute Tim Parker shows fantastic control in the box when he brings down a Matias Laba dipping pass

And coolly slots past Bono to double the Whitecaps lead

Shock and awe

Goalscorers united

Blas Perez nearly makes it three in stoppage time but sees his effort agonisingly crash off the left post
