BB5 and Inter serve up a nine-goal classic as VUFC Hibernian stay top of VMSL Premier after six goal shellacking (with video highlights)

Four points separate the top eight sides in the Vancouver Metro Soccer League (VMSL) Premier Division after the week seven action, with the games coming thick and fast to make up matches earlier this season and the goals flying in across the lower mainland.

The Week 7 action got underway at Burnaby Lake on Friday night with Columbus keeping up their excellent start to the new season with a 3-2 win over West Van.

The Golden Boot leading Emiliano Brienza took his tally to the season to nine when he opened the scoring for Columbus in the 16th minute before Jordan Verones tied things up for the Amblesiders nine minutes later. Parker Ellis looked to have given the home side the half time lead when he put Columbus back ahead in the 40th minute, but Verones tied things up once again in first half stoppage time to send the teams in level. Adriano Clemente scored the winner for Columbus in the 71st minute to move them up to 4th in the table and keep West Van down in the relegation dogfight.

Coquitlam’s Cunnings Turf saw Metro-Ford Wolves play host to NVFC Norvan in a closely contested affair.

Rhyse Harnden fired the visitors ahead with just two minutes on the clock in the second phase from a corner. That was how things stayed until seven minutes into the second half when Derek Ebel brought Coquitlam level. With time running out and a draw looking on the cards, up stepped Kyle Jones to become the hero, firing in a nice match winner in the 89th minute.

Inter EDC saw off the challenge of Port Moody at Burnaby Lake on Friday evening with a hard fought 3-2 victory.

Massud Habibullah put Inter ahead in the 7th minute with his sixth goal of the season before Kieran Sheriff levelled for Port Moody midway through the first half. That’s how it stayed until the 52nd minute when Andres Rojas Rodriguez put Inter back ahead, only for Port Moody to level again through Samuel Lee in the 70th minute. With time running out, Ernesto Arteaga found the winner for Inter with three minutes remaining for a big three points for the then unbeaten side.

Saturday saw two matches with a Nic Morello double in the 80th and 95th minutes giving defending champs BB5 United a 2-0 win at Westside, while league leaders VUFC Hibernian hit six of the best at the UBC South turf thanks to a first half double from Max Comsia, a second half hat-trick from Patrick Braun, and another from Oliver Herbert.

That then set up the final match of the week, a make up match due to nationals and some Monday Night Football under the lights at Newton as BB5 United hosted Inter EDC in an absolute cracker and a nine goal thriller that saw a storming Inter comeback and a dramatic late winner for BB5 in a 5-4 victory.
