Episode 440 – The AFTN Soccer Show (Nap Time with Marc Dos Santos, Evan Newton, and Gio Savarese)

The latest AFTN Soccer Show is out for another packed show of Vancouver Whitecaps, MLS, and Canadian football chat.

As we bring this show out there’s five more sleeps till the Whitecaps kick off their 2021 MLS campaign, and three till the season itself starts on Friday night. There’s a busy week in store and especially here at AFTN Towers as we look to bring you as many daily podcasts in the build up to First Kick as we can!

There’ll be season previews for the Whitecaps and both conferences, bold predictions, a Timbers match preview, and some interviews and other audio from around the league thrown in as well. But we kick things off this episode by looking at Vancouver and Portland’s final preparations for Sunday’s season opener.

As the Whitecaps readied themselves with two preseason friendlies, the Timbers were going nap in CONCACAF Champions League action and look well ahead of the ‘Caps going into Sunday’s match. But football is a funny old game. We look at all that and ask Whitecaps head coach Marc Dos Santos and Timbers boss Gio Savarese for some thoughts on where their teams are right now.

All of that plus we find out if Whitecaps goalkeeper Evan Newton fancies a chocolate digestive, as he gives us an insight in his diet!

Here’s the rundown for the main segments from the episode:

01.24: Intro and football cards chat
11.14: Whitecaps News of the Week
23.23: MDS talks preseason games and readiness
27.25: Breaking down the Chicago and Indy Eleven friendlies
45.45: Anyone Fancy A Chocolate Digestive? – Evan Newton
52.56: Portland prepare for the season opener in style – with audio from Gio Savarese
