There’s Still (Extra) Time – Episode 41 [Forever Blowing Bubbles featuring Marc Dos Santos, Axel Schuster, and Covid Cup broadcasting details]

The latest AFTN ‘Extra’ podcast is out and Episode 41 comes in at just over an hour long as we focus on the MLS is Back tournament that gets underway in Orlando today.

We bring you a couple of conference calls in this episode.

First up, Whitecaps head coach Marc Dos Santos and Sporting Director Axel Schuster chat about the withdrawal of FC Dallas and what that means to Vancouver’s group, preparing the team to leave in an unsettling time, and how the players feel about heading into a virus hotspot from the relatively safe confines of Vancouver.

The first game of the tournament goes today. We’ve wondered what the “innovative” television broadcasts would be like, but as it turns out it’s not going to look all that different than usual – just no fans there and no crowd noise. We bring you a full conference call (from 22.35 mark) with MLS Senior VP of Media Seth Bacon and ESPN VP of Production Amy Rosenfeld as they explain what the broadcast experience is going to be like for fans to watch at home and what they have in store production wide with it all.
