Vancouver Whitecaps v LA Galaxy – The Story In Pictures
Vancouver Whitecaps didn’t have their troubles to seek in this one.
By half time, they’d lost three starters – Pedro Morales and Kekuta Manneh to injury and Matias Laba to MLS’ red card plague.
Down a man, they often looked the more likely to score, but both goalkeepers were in fine form and at the end of a torrid night, the ‘Caps were happy to at least get something from the game, after a battling 0-0 draw.
AFTN photographer Tom Ewasiuk was there to capture all the action before, during and after the game and here’s his “Story In Pictures”, with a full Flickr slideshow at the end.

Beware the red mist that carries the PRO plague
This was how Carl Robinson was looking before the game had even started! You should have seen him after…

7 – Nicolas Mezquida sets up Octavio Rivero on the corner of the box but the Uruguayan’s low drive is straight at LA ‘keeper Brian Rowe
19 – Pedro Morales is forced off with a left hip strain
24 – Jelle Van Damme is booked for taking out Nicolas Mezquida, making no attempt to go for the ball
28 – The game changing moment as Matias Laba sees red after referee Jair Marrufo deems his challenge on Mike Magee to be studs up. Did someone say mass confrontation?
Kendall Waston clearly asking the fourth official just what the point is anymore if he can’t be the ref’s guiding eyes or asking him to bring out the Barbies

Which is brilliantly turned around the post by Brian Rowe
In the second half the Whitecaps bunker in and turn in a second straight clean sheet with some solid defending, much to LA’s angst
70 – In a half devoid of action the ball falls to LA sub Gyasi Zardes a few yards out and the Great Dane David Ousted produces a point blank stop, or rather his face does!
Leaving him feeling the effects afterwards

85 – A neat backheel looks to have played in Blas Perez, but a last ditch LA foot sends it out for a corner
Alan Gordon is such a fan of Tim Parker that he wants his jersey even before the game is finished. Soon after this the veteran has the last chance of the game, heading a corner narrowly wide
