Vancouver Whitecaps v Real Salt Lake – The Story In Pictures
Vancouver Whitecaps current four game home stand is going to go a long way to where the team will end up in the playoff reckoning come the end of the season. It got off to a great start on Saturday night with what was a hard fought in the end 3-2 victory over a Real Salt Lake team fighting for their postseason hopes.
Goals from Cristian Techera, Kendall Waston, and Yordy Reyna saw the ‘Caps home, and although they gave up some “bad goals” defensively to give RSL some hope, it was a fairly comfortable win, albeit one made more difficult than you feel it needed to be.
AFTN photographer Tom Ewasiuk was there to capture all the action before, during and after the game. Here’s his “Story In Pictures”, with a full Flickr slideshow at the end.

Your Whitecaps starting XI
After some early close calls, the ‘Caps finally get on the scoreboard in the 29th minute when Jake Nerwinski sends a dangerous ball into the box
For Cristian Techera to tuck away. 1-0 ‘Caps
The Bug bites and he loves it
But RSL got themselves back level when Chris Wingert’s curler into the box goes straight through to David Ousted
Who makes the intial save
But can only look on as the ball bounces off the turf and over the line
The look on everyone’s faces says it all
But the ‘Caps regrouped after half time and retake the lead in the 52nd minute as Yordy Reyna’s free kick into the box is met by Tim Parker
His effort crashes off the right post and the rebound falls to Kendall Waston, who drills home
Joy all round
Moments later David Ousted makes up for his earlier blunder with a great double save, first stopping the ball at the post
Then kicking away the rebound
Then another big save from the Dane
But the ‘Caps look home and dry when Bernie Ibini sends in a great cross in the 64th minute
Which Yordy Reyna powerfully heads home
A great team display with the goals
And although RSL pull one back from Tony Beltran with seven minutes remaining
There’s no way back for the visitors and the final whistle brings delight both on and off the pitch
And ends with Yordy Reyna doing the Humba with Curva Collective
