Episode 754 – The AFTN Soccer Show (Never Seen Before – Whitecaps win MLS West and make more history, Vancouver FC end of season review, MLS and CPL round-ups)
We’re back with another AFTN Soccer Show packed full of Vancouver Whitecaps, Vancouver FC, Major League Soccer, and Canadian Premier League chat.
The Whitecaps have finally clinched the number one seed in the West for the MLS playoffs and all the trappings that go with finishing first in the conference. They’ve done it by setting some more club history along the way and celebrated with an emphatic rout of Seattle Sounders in their penultimate game of the regular season. We look back at all of that and what lies ahead, as the MLS playoff picture is clouded to say the very least heading into Decision Day.
Turning our attention to the CPL, we’ve got an end of season review for Vancouver FC. It was their best CPL season yet in all the most important metrics, but one where they still weren’t able to book a postseason berth, missing out by just a single point in the end. We look back at the year that was, who should stay, who should move on, and where the team needs strengthened. Plus we round up the first legs of the two very exciting, and fascinatingly poised, CPL semi-finals.
Music-wise, we’ve decided not to go for an Artist of the Month for November, and will round the year off with more selections of songs from C86 bands, while Italian punk band Derozer feature in Wavelength.
