WFC2 v Seattle Sounders 2 – The Story In Pictures
It was always going to be a tight and exciting end to the USL season. With three games remaining, WFC2 haven’t even officially clinched a playoff spot yet.
They’ve made hard work of it lately, with just one win in their last eight matches. That’s seen the long time Western Conference leaders slip down the standings. They currently occupy fourth place, but are only five points of first placed Sacramento Republic. It’s going to be one hell of a run-in.
Monday’s 2-2 draw with Sounders 2 didn’t help the ‘Caps cause. A point is a point, but when you’re a goal up, and a man up, in a game you need to win, it’s not good enough.
The match was a tale of two doubles, with a pair from Marco Bustos setting Vancouver on their way, before Jordan Schweitzer pegged the ‘Caps back in each half.
AFTN photographer Tom Ewasiuk was there to capture all the action before, during and after the game and here’s our “Story In Pictures”, with a full Flickr slideshow at the end.

McLeod Stadium in Langley – WFC’s (still unbeaten at) home away from home
The good guys
A fired up Marco Bustos puts WFC2 up just three minutes in after good work by Kyle Greig to set up the chance
Greig cracks a 17th minute effort off the crossbar
And the game of inches comes back to cost the ‘Caps as Jordan Schweitzer tears forward and plays a nice interchange that leaves the Whitecaps defence standing
Slotting home a 21st minute equaliser to tie things up at 1-1
Baws
As the first half runs down Cole Seiler rises well to head an effort goalbound
But it’s superbly turned away by S2 keeper Tyler Miller
The second half starts well as Alphonso Davies weaves his way into the box before being brought down in the 50th minute
Up steps Marco Bustos
Who slots home his second of the afternoon
And the ‘Caps day gets better moments later when Zach Mathers gets sent off for a lunge at Brett Levis
See ya loser
You don’t get this up at UBC, although if you did, there’s likely an emergency situation beckoning
But ten man S2 fight back and Jordan Schweitzer grabs his second of the afternoon with a deft header
And Seattle nearly win it at the death but WFC2 keeper Sean Melvin comes up big and it finishes 2-2
