Episode 486 – The AFTN Soccer Show (World At Their Feet)

The latest AFTN Soccer Show is out for another packed show of Vancouver Whitecaps, MLS, and Canadian football chat.

It’s an exciting time in Canadian soccer and we’re in a celebratory mood this episode with Canada getting ever closer to reaching the World Cup in Qatar and the Whitecaps getting set for their first MLS playoff campaign since 2017. Happy days and we have it all covered for you in this episode.

We start off on the international stage as Canada made it six points from six in World Cup qualifying in Edmonton and they finish 2021 at the top of the Octo. We look back at the big talking points from the wins over Costa Rica and Mexico and get the inside scoop from our man on the ground at Commonwealth Stadium. Have Canada all but assured a top four finish? Where will the next match against the US be played? We chat about all of this and more.

Moving back to domestic matters, as the Whitecaps get set to head to Kansas City in playoff action, we look at the team’s poor postseason record, preview the KC match, and chat one-on-one with ‘Caps head coach Vanni Sartini.

And there’s still time for our feature interview this episode as we sit down for a chat with the ‘Caps leading scorer Brian White about his career so far, coming to Vancouver, and the game against KC.

Here’s the rundown for the main segments from the episode:

02.00: Intro and football cards
11.05: Canada are top of the Octo
71.16: Whitecaps playoff record and playoff optimism
82.13: Vanni Sartini interview
